The Research
Process: A Guide

 1. Use the Research Process Checklist to help you stay on track throughout the research process.


 2. Keep in mind that good research begins with good questions. If you need help developing an essential question with supporting questions to guide your research, visit Developing Questions page.
 

 3. Check the PHS LMC Webpage and Research Unit Archive to see if any pathfinders or resources lists have already been created for your unit.

4. Remember to use a variety of resources, including print, online databases and appropriate websites. 

5. Use appropriate search engines and online databases to locate materialsTo learn more about the benefits of using articles accessed via a database, read Sirs vs. Google and Other Web Surfing.

6. Be sure to critically evaluate the quality of information found on the Internet.  Use the Evaluation of Information Found on the Internet article as a guide.

7. Use graphic organizers to record relevant information in YOUR OWN WORDS (see Region 15 Plagiarism Guide.)

8. Remember to cite all resources you used using the Works Cited Guide.
