The students in the Pomperaug Theatre Company, under the direction of Mr. Paul E. Doniger, produce all the plays at Pomperaug High School, usually staging two different productions over the school year: A fall production in our Black Box Theatre and a spring production on the Main Stage in the auditorium. During odd numbered years, the spring production is a musical. Students may work as stagehands, designers, artisans, publicists, technicians, musicians, and actors. Students who participate in the Pomperaug Theatre Company receive elective credits towards graduation (one half credit per semester).

The fall 2009 evening of one act plays breaks PHS records:

Our evening of four American plays (dubbed, "Four by Four") played to sold out houses in the black box last November for five of its six performances. This spring, we will be bringing one of these plays, Christopher Durang's The Actor's Nighmare, to the annual CDA Festival (held in Greenwich this year).

Stay tuned for our big event for the spring of 2010: Kaufman and Hart's riotus satire of early Hollywood, Once in A Lifetime.

Fall 2008 production of Karen Sunde's Kabuki Lady Macbeth resounds with success

The second performance of the play on Saturday, November 15, 2008 was energized by the attendance of the publisher and the playwright in the audience. Students from the cast and crew met with playwright Karen Sunde for a brief but meaningful chat after their fine performance. For photos of the event, click here.

CALL FOR HELP:

Parents and other adults, you are needed!

Because our learning goals in the theatre program include working as part of a team in a real-world, theatrical experience, we need mentors and professionals with expertise. That means we want guidance from adults with skills like carpentry, sewing, management, publishing, printing, painting, design and execution of projects, and many others that may come up during the production, performance, and post-production aspects of our plays. If you're an adult with the time, skills, or interest in working with us (typically from 2:15 through 4:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon), please contact Mr. Doniger (pdoniger@region15.org) or call the Black Box Theatre (203-262-3247).
